I invite you to check out a video that I found very inspiring. It is a Sunday Sermon by Bishop Robert Barron, the founder of Word on Fire Catholic Ministries, based on the Gospel reading for February 19, 2023 (Matthew 5:38-48).
The sermon focuses on the theme of love as God loves, which is different from human love that is often based on reciprocity, preference, or emotion. God’s love is unconditional, universal, and creative.
Bishop Barron elaborates on how Jesus challenges his followers to imitate God’s love by loving their enemies, praying for those who persecute them, and being perfect as their heavenly Father is perfect. These commands are not impossible ideals but realistic invitations to participate in God’s life.
We are all invited to ask for God’s grace to love as he loves, especially during Lent when we are called to repentance and conversion. Loving as God loves is the only way to find true happiness and peace.
